<p>It may feel instinctive to fling open the curtains in the morning, but direct sunlight is your worst enemy when trying to keep your bedroom cool. Shut blinds and curtains when the sun’s blazing, and if you have venetian blinds, tilt them upwards so the heat bounces away.</p>
<p>If you want to go one step further, consider reflective window film — far more sensible than some of the stranger “hacks” we’ve seen online (yes, people really do suggest smearing yoghurt on your windows… we’ll pass on that one).</p>
<h3>2. Let the Cool Night Air In</h3>
<p>Daytime windows closed, nighttime windows open — that’s the golden rule. As temperatures dip after sunset, throw open the windows to let in the cooler breeze. To maximise the effect, hang a damp sheet in front of the window — it acts like natural air conditioning.</p>
